morocco riad
Totally catching up on my blogroll...

Check out our new house - in Fez! We tried to take a few outfit shots today, but I can tell it's definitely going to be tough while we're in Morocco. I definitely don't feel all that comfortable posing it up out on the streets of the medina, and immediately after Chris snapped this quick shot the sky went completely overcast and it got extremely dark everywhere in the house. Hopefully we'll have a bit better luck with the interior light over the next few days - I'd love to address some of the particular challenges (and, dare I say it, opportunities?) of dressing while traveling in a Muslim country.

Hi, I just stumbled across your blog and I love your site and your style! I recently spent a nine month stint in Germany and lived out of a suitcase for that and it was both challenging and a ton of fun to be sartorially creative during that time. From what I can see, you're having no trouble nagotiating those waters!

Fascinating! I'm really interested to hear more about how you deal with the challenges of dressing in Morocco. Also, that house is gorgeous!

Even better, we went up on the roof today to check out the view, and it turns out the owners are in the process of creating a small little apartment up there for summertime visitors, complete with outdoor shower! I'm definitely tempted to come back once it's warmer and sleep out under the stars with all the rooftop cats :)

It's funny, I fretted a lot while packing about what to bring just for this leg of the trip, but it's turned out to be pretty simple - plus it's pretty obvious I'm a tourist no matter what I'm wearing, so in a way it doesn't make all that much difference!

Thanks S, and welcome! (Er, wilkommen?) I have a little bit of previous suitcase-living-experience, as I spent six months in Copenhagen during college, but I spent that time in a single apartment and so was able to bring a lot more with me. This trip has certainly been a bigger challenge in terms of squeezing versatility out of a smaller wardrobe, but I think these slightly more 'extreme' conditions are working like a pressure cooker to help me pin down my personal style in a much more specific way. I'm hoping this experience might ultimately help me pare down the overflowing boxes of clothes at home and start working with a smaller and more focused kit of parts.

It's pretty incredible - I'd love to be here in the summer when the cover is off the courtyard and the whole house is just open to the sky!
